BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter who totaled 67/10.5/2 as a senior when he also intercepted one pass and broke up two more. Junior totals
included 80 tackles after 60 during his sophomore season.
POSITIVES: Smith has been a productive player, and more importantly, an intelligent defender the past four years. He lacks the size to
be starter at the next level, yet he could be a very effective backup/special teams player in a one-gap system.
NEGATIVES: Looks a bit stiff at times, and seems to struggle redirecting to the action. Built more like a safety rather than a linebacker.
ANALYSIS: Productive and underrated linebacker with poor size/speed numbers. Instinctive defender who plays smart football, and constantly
put himself in a position to make plays on the ball. Displays a terrific head for the game, fires up the field filling gaps
in run defense, and forceful on the blitz. Breaks down well, collapses the outside defending the run, and shows the ability
to make plays in space. Plays disciplined football and shows good awareness in coverage.
