BIOGRAPHY: Moved into the starting lineup as a senior, winning all-Conference honors after totaling 66 tackles and intercepting one pass. Junior numbers included 44 tackles when he was a key backup.

POSITIVES: Athletic weak side linebacker who effectively makes plays in space. Breaks down well, fluid moving laterally, and displays speed in every direction of the field. Possesses a good head for the ball, quickly changes direction and displays outstanding skill in pursuit. Quickly picks up coverage assignments, plays with a great amount of quickness, and immediately recognizes assignments in coverage. Easily stays downfield with tight ends, possesses a burst of speed, and is aggressive in all aspects of his play. Uses his hands to protect himself, and effectively slides in the box to defend the run. Chases around the field and plays with great intensity.

NEGATIVES: Not a strong or sturdy linebacker. Has tackles broken. Inefficient and takes extra steps to the action.

ANALYSIS: Maiava did an outstanding job as a senior after finally breaking into the starting lineup on a full-time basis. He is one of the Trojans' most complete linebackers, and he projects at the next level as a three-down defender. Maiava's size is a limiting factor. And it may dictate the types of systems he'll be successful in, yet he possesses the abilities to eventually develop into a starting weak-side linebacker.
