BIOGRAPHY: Junior-college transfer who started nine games last season, passing for 49.8%/1,659/10/8, while also adding 118 yards rushing
and four more scores. All-Conference selection as a junior after passing numbers of 52.8%/1,414/11/7 with five more scores
carrying the ball. Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1999 and spent four seasons as a centerfielder in the organization.
Will be 28 years old this July.
POSITIVES: Mayo is a terrific athlete with an NFL arm, yet a game that is rough around the edges. He needs a lot of work to complete
his game, but he has only a short time span in which to do so.
NEGATIVES: Marginally accurate with poor placement, and he tends to under-throw or throw behind receivers. Has a large number of passes
batted away at the line of scrimmage. Struggled with injuries last year.
ANALYSIS: Nice-sized athletic quarterback who's more of a thrower rather than a passer. Quickly sets up in the pocket, keeps his feet
active, and throws with a fluid delivery. Displays good pocket awareness, senses the rush, and knows where his receivers are
on the field. Nimble, elusive, can avoid oncoming pass rushers, and easily makes the throw on the move. Looks away from covered
receivers, puts touch on throws when necessary, and possesses a quick release, displaying good speed and velocity on the short
and intermediate throws.
