BIOGRAPHY: Junior-college transfer who posted 37/555/6 at receiver last season, while also averaging 10.1-yards on 20 punt returns, with
another score. Sporadically asked to return kicks, and averaged 26.3 yards on 11 kick returns in 08. Junior totals included
pass catching numbers of 57/605/5 with a 17.5 yard average on 26 punt returns and another score. Petitioned the NCAA for
another season of eligibility in '09 and awaiting an answer.
POSITIVES: Elusive skill player who is dangerous handling the ball. Quick off the line, immediately gets to top speed, and comes back
to the ball out of breaks. Effortlessly adjusts to the errant throw, and grabs the pass running full speed. Plays with terrific
balance, body control, and effectively uses the sidelines. Displays good field awareness, quickly transitions from making
the catch to running after the reception, and creates yardage in the open field. For the most part, possesses solid hands.
NEGATIVES: Undersized, loses out in battles, and gets marginal results blocking. Tends to drift out of routes rather than sharply exiting
breaks. Does not possess home run hitting speed.
ANALYSIS: Murphy is an undersized pass catcher whose value at the next level would be returning punts.
