BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year last season after passing totals of 68%/2,972/27/9. Junior
totals included 66.5%/1,847/11/10. All-Conference selection as a true sophomore in 05 after passing for 2,892 yards and
18 touchdowns. Suffered a season-ending knee injury 10 games into his sophomore campaign and sat on the sidelines recovering
POSITIVES: Johnson comes off a splendid senior campaign, and he helped Utah to an undefeated season. He's a control passer best in a
timing offense, but he lacks the size and arm strength to be anything other than a backup at the next level.
NEGATIVES: Lacks size, pocket stature, and cannot withstand the rush. Loses poise as a pocket collapses around him, and has a tendency
to take up the field a little too early. Cannot drive deep passes.
ANALYSIS: Efficient game manager who does a terrific job controlling the offense. Patient in the pocket, buys time for receivers, and
goes through progressions, displaying awareness and a sense of timing. Looks off the safety, quickly gets the ball out of
his hands, and puts air under deep throws. Effectively reads defenses, picks up the blitz, and takes the safe underneath outlet
if nothing is available downfield. Relatively accurate with above-average pass placement. Does not force the ball into covered
receivers and for the most part makes good decisions.
