John Russell
Biography: Two-year starter awarded All-Conference honors as a senior after totaling 46/8/4.5. Junior numbers included 38/7/4.
Positives: Competitive, high motor defender who plays with a warrior mentality. Fires off the snap, plays with excellent leverage, and effectively uses his hands to protect himself. Gets underneath opponents, which gives him an advantage, and displays the ability to hold the point. Works his hands hard, makes plays down the line of scrimmage, and rarely off his feet. Negatives: Lacks natural bulk and is controlled at the point of attack by a single blocker. Despite his 40 time shows an average closing burst to the play. Analysis: Russell is a hard-working defender who gets the most from his abilities and plays hard until the whistle blows. He offers possibilities lining up across from right tackle if he's able to add bulk and get stronger. Projection: FA |
