Biography: Two-year starter who lined up at both linebacker and safety. Senior totals included 77 tackles and nine tackles for loss. Posted 71 tackles as a junior. Has never intercepted a pass in college.
Positives: Tough, run-defending safety forceful up the field. Effectively diagnoses the action, forceful on the blitz, and works hard to get a pad on ball-carriers. Fluid changing direction, nicely redirects to ball-carriers and wraps up tackling. Effective making plays in the open field and gets depth on pass drops.
Negatives: Easily blocked from the action or turned from plays by a single opponent. Lacks a great closing burst. Struggles staying downfield with opponents.
Analysis: Coleman is an adequately sized defender best making plays downhill. He has limitations in coverage and would be best as a conventional strong safety or in a zone system. Coleman has a special teams mentality and should make an active roster next season.
