Biography: Four-year starter awarded All-Conference and All-American honors the past two seasons. Senior totals included 109/4/2.5 after 120 tackles and six interceptions as a junior.
Positives: Fierce, run-defending linebacker who plays with a nasty attitude. Breaks down well, uses his hands to protect himself, and plays heads-up football. Instinctive, diagnoses the action and stays with assignments. Aggressively drives his shoulder pads into ball-carriers and delivers a blow. Displays a terrific head for the ball in run defense. Leads the defense and makes the calls.
Negatives: All too often blocked from the action. Struggles pedaling in reverse and displays minimal skills in coverage. Lacks the quick change of direction.
Analysis: Pawelek has been a tackling machine the past three seasons and offers the skills necessary to make it as a middle linebacker. In many ways he reminds us of former Boston College prospect and Detroit Lion starter Stephen Boyd.
