Tony Nelson
Biography: Two-year starter awarded All-Conference honors since his junior season. Rushing numbers included 150/741/9 as a senior after
243/1325/12 prior year.
Positives: Hard-charging ball-carrier who plays bigger than his size. Runs underneath his pads, gets lost behind blockers, and is very elusive on the inside. Finds the cutback lanes, follows blocks everywhere on the field, and quickly gets through the running lanes. Better than average strength in his lower body, breaks tackles, and falls forward when tackled. Displays good footwork and the ability to bounce around defenders or piles. Negatives: Not a big-bodied ball-carrier who can handle the load or take a pounding. Marginally productive as a receiver in college. Analysis: Nelson is a sleeper of sorts at the running back position and a skilled ball-carrier who makes the most of his talents. He'll have an opportunity as a situational back in camp this summer if he improves his pass catching skills. Projection: FA
