Biography: Three-year starter totaled 49/3/6 as a senior after junior totals of 37/2/5. Posted a career-best 63 tackles as a sophomore.
Positives: Tough, run-defending safety who plays bigger and stronger than his size. Fast up the field, wraps up tackling and a strong open field tackler who brings opponents down on initial contact. Displays a nice burst of speed, keeps his focus and works hard. Does not bite on play action passes and stays with assignments.
Negatives: Displays some ability to cover between the numbers yet lacks lateral speed and range in centerfield. Struggles staying with receivers out of their breaks and really does not have a good break to the throw.
Analysis: Russell has been very productive on the college level yet really does not project well to the NFL. He'll offer possibilities as a strong safety or in a zone system yet must make his mark on special teams.
