Biography: Three-year starter who totaled 67/4/2 as a senior after junior totals of 41/2/1. Played in six games in 2008 before suffering a season ending knee injury. All-Conference selection as a sophomore when he led the team with 115 tackles.
Positives: Physical run-defending safety best between the numbers. Fast in a straight line, physical and aggressively lays his pads into ball-carriers. Relatively efficient, takes good angles to the action and chases hard to make a play. Displays skill in coverage facing the action.
Negatives: Has not shown much explosion or suddenness after his knee injury. Poor skills in coverage. Lacks top lateral speed and the ability to quickly close to the action.
Analysis: Thomas is a king-sized safety best defending the run and playing downhill. Lacks the skills to be anything other than a backup at the next level although he looks like a solid special teams player.
