Biography: Two-year starter who totaled 39/4.5/1 as a senior, when he missed three games with a knee injury. Junior numbers included 62/9.5/3.5.
Positives: Undersized pass rusher who makes plays in every direction of the field. Quick off the snap, plays with good knee bend, and quickly gets his hands up to protect himself. Fluid changing direction, displays the ability to pursue the action laterally, and immediately alters his angle of attack or redirects to linebackers. Effective making plays in space, rarely off his feet and plays with good balance.
Negatives: Easily controlled at the point of attack by a single blocker. Can be a liability in run defense and gets driven back off the line.
Analysis: Fonoti is a high-motor defender who hustles to get involved in the action. He lacks the pure size to play defensive end and may not be fast enough to be moved back to linebacker. Can be used as a situational pass rusher at the next level, yet must make his mark on special teams to have a future in the NFL.
