Biography: Virginia transfer who totaled 40/10/7 last season, his only year on the field at Kansas State. Also intercepted one pass and broke up three more. Junior totals in 2007 included 73/11.5/7 with two interceptions. Sat on the sidelines in 2008 after transferring to Kansas State.
Positives: Athletic defensive lineman with a large amount of upside potential. Plays with good balance, pad level, and rarely off his feet. Moves well in every direction of the field, immediately alters his angle of attack, and displays the ability to pursue from the back side. Fast off the edge and up the field, works his hands to protect himself, and consistently doubled by opponents. Slides down the line and works hard to make plays.
Negatives: Struggles holding the point to defend the run. Indecisive and does not show great instincts. Marginally quick off the snap.
Analysis: Fitzgerald has shown a lot of skill throughout his college career and will only get better as he physically matures and improves his overall strength. He offers potential as a base end in a 4-3 alignment and could eventually develop into a two-gap lineman.
