Biography: Two-year starter who totaled 49/746/6 last season. Suspended for one game in October, then missed the last four contests of the season after he left the team. Sat on the sidelines in 2008 with academic issues. Totals as a sophomore in 2007 included 60/837/10.
Positives: Nice-sized, athletic receiver who showed flashes of ability throughout his college career. Looks the part on the field, displays deceptive speed, and beat defenders downfield. Runs with good lean, keeps the play in bounds after the reception and displays above-average awareness. Always works back to the quarterback to make himself an available target, effectively extends his hands to make the reception away from his frame, and looks the ball in. Gives effort blocking downfield and gets results. Will go up in a crowd for the difficult reception and plays with a good degree of toughness.
Negatives: Not a true burner or a real downfield threat. Has made poor choices off the field and is considered immature by a number of scouts.
Analysis: From a physical standpoint Williams is one of the top receivers in his draft and has been a consistent producer on the field. Several off-the-field issues have limited his playing time the past two seasons and raised red flags in the scouting community. At the top of his game, Williams has the skills necessary to be a productive second receiver on the NFL level, yet he must be totally committed to football and mature as a person off the field.
