GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Carlos Huerta booted the game-winning 36-yard field goal with a second to play, capping a wild finish as the San Jose Sabercats edged the Grand Rapids Rampage, 54-53, in the season opener for both teams. Huerta's decisive field goal -- his first of the game -- came just 13 seconds after his counterpart, Remy Hamilton, missed an extra point. Grand Rapids had taken a 53-51 lead on Carlos Garay's nine-yard touchdown pass to David Andrews. The teams combined for 46 points in the fourth quarter, including 18 in the final 4:39. Scott Wood completed 16-of-28 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a four-yard score that gave the Sabercats a 51-47 lead with 1:51 to play. Jerry Reese caught all three of the TD passes, finishing with eight receptions for 74 yards. Garay was 4-of-9 for 42 yards in relief of Corey Pullig, who completed 15-of-25 for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Andrews had six catches for 62 yards and three scores.
