MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Rookie Keith Stokes is making the Montreal Alouettes' special teams look special.

Stokes returned a pair of punts for touchdowns as the Alouettes scored the game's final 23 points and remained unbeaten with a 37-14 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

In his first season out of East Carolina, Stokes electrified the crowd midway through the opening quarter when he scored on an 80-yard return, giving Montreal a 10-0 lead.

Stokes capped his big night early in the final period, scoring on 69-yard return to make it 31-14. He also had a 55-yard return later in the fourth quarter.

With 224, Stokes broke the team record of 194 punt return yards in a game, set by Johnny Rodgers in 1976. Henry "Gizmo" Williams holds the CFL record with 232 yards on July 17, 1991.

Tied at 14-14, the Alouettes (6-0) took the lead for good with 8:14 left in the third quarter on Bruno Heppell's one-yard run.

Terry Baker added a 36-yard field goal with 32 seconds left in the period before Stokes broke things open early in the fourth quarter.

Baker converted field goals of 14 and 26 yards later in the period for Montreal, which has a three-game lead over second-place Hamilton in the East Division.

Montreal running back Lawrence Phillips, who left last week's game with an injury, returned to the lineup and carried nine times for 42 yards.

Ricky Ray, making his second straight start in place of injured Jason Maas, threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Eskimos (4-2), who are tied with Winnipeg for first place in the West Division.
