EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- Everything pointed to the Edmonton Eskimos getting their revenge. Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell the Montreal Alouettes.

Anthony Calvillo passed for 316 yards and a touchdown as the Alouettes rolled to a 34-16 rout of the Eskimos in a rematch from last season's Grey Cup.

After winning its first Grey Cup title since 1977 with a convincing win victory here in November, the Alouettes (2-0) seemed to be in a vulnerable position entering this contest.

The Alouettes opened their season in unimpressive fashion on Tuesday night, rallying for a 23-20 overtime victory at Calgary. Meanwhile, the Eskimos were rested and waiting for their chance to exact a measure of revenge in their season opener.

But Calvillo, the Most Valuable Player in the Grey Cup, did his best to frustrate the Eskimos again. His 18-yard touchdown pass to Ben Cahoon on the final play of the first quarter gave the Alouettes a 10-0 lead. Calvillo completed 20-of-36 passes.

After Rick Ray found Terry Vaughn with a 25-yard touchdown pass and a safety pulled the Eskimos within 10-9, the Alouettes regained the momentum on Jay Graham's one-yard TD run with 11 seconds left in the half.

Bruno Heppell scored on a one-yard run and Matt Kellett kicked a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter before Graham ran two yards for a TD early in the fourth, giving Montreal a 34-9 cushion. Graham rushed for just four yards on seven attempts.

Alouettes kick returner Donta Greene racked up 182 yards in punt returns. He also had a 67-yard return nullified by a penalty.

It was a penalty-filled contest. Edmonton committed 22 penalties for 160 yards while Montreal had 20 for 105.

Mike Pringle, who built an impressive resume with Montreal, enjoyed little success against his former team as he rushed for just 14 yards on six attempts.

Ray went 22-of-31 for 241 yards and two touchdowns.
