TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Nebraska tight end Tracey Wistrom will not play against Tennessee in the Fiesta Bowl because of a knee injury that has kept him out since November, coach Frank Solich said Friday.
The All-Big 12 sophomore had been trying to come back after partially tearing a posterior cruciate ligament Nov. 29 during a practice before the conference championship game. He practiced some Monday and Tuesday, but had to leave early both days.
Solich listed Wistrom as doubtful for Sunday's game, then confirmed Friday that his season was definitely over.
Wistrom, whose older brother, Grant, was an All-American defensive lineman for the Huskers, was third in catches for Nebraska this season with 16, two of them for touchdowns. He averaged 26.8 yards per catch.
Senior co-captain T.J. DeBates, Aaron Golliday and Jon Bowling are expected to rotate at tight end against Tennessee.
