Record: 8-3, 5-2 Mountain West
Coach: Ron McBride, 10th year (70-46)
Top Off. Player: RB Mike Anderson (977 yards, 10 TDs)
Top Def. Player: DE John Frank (13 sacks, 20 tackles for loss)
Season Summary:
It seemed unlikely Utah would share the Mountain West title following consecutive late-season losses to Colorado State and Wyoming, but the Utes rallied to shock BYU in the final game. With starting QB Darnell Arceneaux sidelined by a concussion, T.D. Croshaw filled in beautifully the last two games.

Record: 8-4, 5-2 WAC
Coach: Pat Hill, third year (19-16)
Top Off. Player: QB Billy Volek (66.2 completion percentage, 30 TDs, 3 INTs)
Top Def. Player: FS Vernon Fox (93 tackles)
Season Summary:
As evidenced by Volek's numbers, the Bulldogs are a high-flying, West-Coast offense team. After a disappointing start that included losses to Oregon State and UCLA of the Pac-10, Fresno rebounded to knock off fellow bowl teams TCU and Colorado State. It finished the season winning four of its last five.
