Record: 8-3, 7-1 Pac-10
Coach: Tyrone Willingham, fifth year (30-26-1)
Top Off. Player: WR Troy Walters (1,273 yards, 19.3 yards per catch)
Top Def. Player: LB Marc Stockbauer (81 tackles, seven sacks)
Season Summary:
The Cardinal were the best of a subpar Pac-10 lot this season, rolling through the conference but losing to Texas (66-13) and San Jose State. Willingham's program turned the corner thanks to a high-powered offense that outscores most people. Walters might be one of the best-kept secrets in all of college football.

TEAM HEADLINES
Aug 18  Stewart Mandel Mailbag: An ode to the West Coasters
  Record: 9-2, 7-1 Big-10
Coach: Barry Alvarez, tenth year (69-44-4)
Top Off. Player: RB Ron Dayne (1,834 rushing yards, 19 TDs)
Top Def. Player: CB Jamar Fletcher (seven interceptions, two for TDs)
Season Summary:
Wisconsin rode Dayne to its second consecutive Big Ten championship. The Badgers survived a two-game September losing streak to Cincinnati and Michigan and got better as QB Bollinger progressed. As efficient as Wisconsin's offense is, its defense allowed more than 20 points in just two games all season.
