The Plot

The Road to BCS Payday Fifteen starters return, filling all the skill positions on offense, and a collection of serviceable youth fills out the roster. The only problem is the same motley crew checked in at 4-7 last season. David Wimbush returns as the classic Kansas scatback, but three first-year starters on the offensive line might cool his jets. A revamped linebacking corps will get lots of work.

The Director

Terry Allen -- second season, 9-13; 43-56-2 overall

Starring

RB David Wimbush -- Compact back is the third-leading returning rusher in the Big 12, behind just Ricky Williams and Darren Davis.
QB Zac Wegner -- He doesn't personally remember being this good; Wegner suffered concussions in back-to-back games last season.

Co-starring

WR Harrison Hill -- Led the team in receptions as a freshman.
DE Dion Rayford -- Unfortunately for Rayford, when it comes to the Kansas rush defense, he's a band-aid on a broken arm.

Why it will work

Three words: Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk. Last year's home upset of Colorado showed that on a given night, the coolest cheer in sports can still inspire greatness.

Why it won't

After adding the Eddie Robinson Classic game (and a probable loss) against Notre Dame, Kansas needs seven wins to be bowl eligible, a minor miracle.
