The Plot

The Road to BCS Payday The old bully takes a few lumps from the neighborhood kids, and people begin thinking maybe he's lost a step or two. But with nearly everybody returning healthy, including QB Bobby Newcombe and ultra injury-plagued RB DeAngelo Evans, it looks more and more like the sleeping giant of the Big 12 has awakened. And if the offense isn't bad enough news for the rest of the league, the defense is second-to none.

The Director

Frank Solich -- second season, 9-4

Starring

QB Bobby Newcombe -- If he could only shake the injury bug as well as he can a rushing linebacker, they'd call him Heisman.
RB DeAngelo Evans -- The "i" in win may as well stand for I-back, and the difference between winning and losing rests on Evans' oft-injured shoulders.
CB Ralph Brown -- Is there a defensive record at Nebraska Brown doesn't own?

Co-starring

SS Mike Brown -- The other half of Browntown, Mike led last year's squad in tackles with 102.
OT Adam Julch -- Smash-mouth football's poster boy.
LB Eric Johnson -- The best linebacker on the best linebacking corps in the league, Johnson plays the weak side in name only.

Why it will work

Only four starters were lost from last year's 9-4 squad, and a slew of players return from injury in '99.

Why it won't

Outside of the injury bug? If you've got an idea, we know 11 coaches who'd be interested to hear it.
