The DirectorDarrell Dickey -- second year, 3-8Ensemble castRB Ja'Quay Wilburn -- Averaged 7.26 ypc (501 yards on 69 attempts) in his last three games of '98.DE Corbin Montgomery -- Registered a team-high seven sacks in '98. WR Broderick McGrew -- Led the nation in kickoff return average (32.6 yards per attempt). OT Vince Patterson -- Only returning starter on the O-line. And introducingQB Spencer Stack -- Put up big prep numbers and could overtake Richard Briggs and Chase Corley as the backup QB -- Jason Attaway, who started last season, is the current No. 1 but is coming off a knee injury. Why it will workThe Eagles didn't look much better on paper at the beginning of '98 but went 3-2 in the Big West, finishing second in the conference. Why it won'tThe Eagles are thin on offense (in '98 they managed a meager 258.6 yards per game), and defensively, the secondary may only be able to contain a few teams in the conference. Our critics' review* |
