If ... Utah State ('98: 3-8, 2-3 Big West)Posted: Wednesday August 11, 1999 06:11 PM
The Plot
Seven starters return from the Big West's best defense -- though four of the losses were all-conference first-team selections. On offense, eight starters return -- though the top two receivers are gone from a team that averaged only 318.2 yards per game (fifth in the conference).
The DirectorDave Arslanian -- second year, 3-8; 56-55 overallStarringK Brad Bohn -- All-America candidate hit a conference-record 24 field goals in '98.Co-starringLB Brent Passey -- All-conference first-teamer in '98 needs to have an even bigger impact in '99 without Big West defensive player of the year Tony D'Amato at MLB.RB Demario Brown -- Rushed for 482 of his team-high 846 yards in his last three games. QB Jeff Crosbie -- Returning starter switched to WR in second half of the spring game and could play a "slash" role. WR Aaron Jones -- After making only 22 receptions (344 yards, four TDs) in '98 as the team's No. 3 receiver, the junior should be the No. 1 passing threat in '99. Why it will workIf Jones develops, Brown shows the form he did late last year and the quarterback situation is ironed out, the Aggies are a factor in the conference. Why it won'tSchedule is brutal: non-conference games at Georgia, Utah and Kansas State; Big West tilts at Idaho and at Nevada; and the Aggies host BYU.Our critics' review* |
