Scouting report

Is it possible to be the forgotten man when you run for 1,245 yards in a season? Apparently so.

In his first season as the Buckeyes' primary rusher, Wiley was often overshadowed in 1998 by the feel-good story of fifth-year senior Joe Montgomery, who finished took 118 carries to Wiley's 198. Before that, Wiley was Pepe Pearson's backup for two seasons.

Wiley is tiny compared with past OSU backs like Robert Smith and Eddie George, but he's also faster. A popular page in John Cooper's playbook involves the quarterback pitching wide to Wiley and letting him race around the tight end and outsprint defenders up the sideline.

The Buckeyes' massive line allows him to find holes up the middle a similarly frail back might be unable to break, and once he's in the open field - look out. Among Wiley's 2,975 all-purpose yards (Ohio State's 10th all-time) and 22 touchdowns is a 100-yard kickoff return.
