Jonathan Beasley saved his last spectacular performance for the best time as he and Kansas State ran all over Tennessee. AP

K-Statement

Beasley, Morgan lead Wildcat rout of Tennessee

Much was made of Tennessee's attacking defense and the Vols' precocious QB Casey Clausen entering the Cotton Bowl. But Kansas State showed that it has some skill, too. The Wildcats, led by brilliant performances from Jonathan Beasley and Quincy Morgan, sliced apart the Tennesee defense en route to an easy 35-21 win in frigid Dallas.

Roster

Record: 8-3, 5-3 SEC
Coach: Phil Fulmer (ninth season, 84-17)
Key players:
RB Travis Henry (1,314 yards, 11 TDs), DT John Henderson (12 sacks), K Alex Walls (18 of 20 FGs, 39-of-39 XPTs)
Season summary:
A young team that had lost seven starters to the NFL Draft was expected to struggle a little, but losing the first three SEC games is still intolerbale in victory-spoiled Knoxville. Fortunately, freshman Casey Clausen (62.4 percent completions) emerged from the Vols' QB mess in time to spout off five consecutive wins to close the season. Henry, UT's all-time rushing leader, is the glue to the offense, and Henderson, Anthony Sessions and Eric Westmoreland are all studs on defense.

Record: 10-3, 6-3 Big 12
Coach:
Bill Snyder (12th season, 98-43-1)
Key players:
WR Quincy Morgan (1,116 yards, 14 TDs), WR Aaron Lockett (1,397 all-purpose yards), DT Mario Fatefehi (14 tackles-for-loss)
Season summary:
Looking back, this was not as dominant a K-State team as the two prior to it. Yet the Wildcats still won 10 games, beat Nebraska and won the Big 12 North. Jonathan Beasley has had another up and down season at quarterback, the most recent down against Oklahoma in the championship. K-State is still very tough on defense, led by Fatefehi up front and Jarrod Cooper and Jerametrius Butler deep. And, as has come to be expected under Snyder, K Jamie Rheem leads some excellent special teams.
