Michael Vick led Virginia Tech to their first Gator Bowl victory in what could have been his last college game. AP

A grand finale?

With speculation swirling, Vick leads Gator Bowl rout

If the Gator Bowl was Michael Vick's final college game, he didn't disappoint. The sophomore quarterback ran for one score and threw for another to lead Virginia Tech past Clemson 41-20. Lee Suggs also ran for 3 TDs as the Hokies beat the Tigers for the third year in a row. Clemson never recovered after top rusher Travis Zachery broke his foot in the second quarter.

Record: 9-2, 6-2 ACC
Coach:
Tommy Bowden (second season, 15-8; 33-12 overall)
Key players:
QB Woodrow Dantzler (947 rushing yards, 1,691 passing, 23 TDs), RB Travis Zachery (1,012 yards, 13 TDs), LB Keith Adams (138 tackles)
Season summary:
The vastly improved Tigers shot to an 8-0 start and the versatile Danztler was being mentioned for the Heisman before he went down with a foot injury against North Carolina. The Tigers subsequently lost to Georgia Tech and Florida State. While the offense has yet to regain quite the explosive form of before, Clemson did get the job done in a last-second finale over South Carolina. And outside the two losses, Adams and the defense have been solid.

Record: 10-1, 6-1 Big East
Coach:
Frank Beamer (14th season, 98-61-2; 140-84-4 overall)
Key players:
RB Lee Suggs (1,207 yards, 27 TDs), QB Michael Vick (185.1 yards per game, 16 TDs), WR Andre Davis (85.0 all-purpose yards), S Cory Bird (12 tackles-for-loss)
Season summary:
All eyes were on the much-hyped Vick coming into the season, but with the QB inconsistent and hobbled by injuries, Suggs stole the show. The tailback won away the starting tailback job early on and keyed the Hokies' offense the rest of the way. A pleasant surprise has been the defense, which almost completely reloaded after last year's national runner-up campaign but still ranks among the country's better units. Tech may have scored its biggest win after the season when Beamer turned down overtures and announced he's staying in Blacksburg.
