Running back Dontae Walker kept firm footing on the snowy turf, scoring three of the Bulldogs' touchdowns. AP

Stunner in the snow

Miss. State takes back blocked PAT to set up OT win

The frozen tundra of Shreveport, La., produced one of the more entertaining bowl games of the season. With snow flying all around, Mississippi State rallied in a wild finish to down Texas A&M 43-41 in overtime. The Bulldogs blocked an A&M extra point in overtime and returned it for two points, allowing Wayne Madkin's 6-yard TD scramble on the next possession to win the game.

Record: 7-4, 4-4 SEC
Jackie Sherrill (10th season, 66-46-2; 171-93-4 overall)
Key players:
QB Wayne Madkin (1,908 yards), RB Dicenzo Miller (996 yards, 10 TDs), CB Fred Smoot (55 tackles, 19 pass break-ups, 5 INTs)
Season summary:
The Bulldogs, behind a menacing defense, were riding high following a 47-35 upset of Florida on Sept. 30. Then the defense took a midseason dive, falling to LSU and, most notably, allowing 527 yards to Middle Tennessee State. The defense recovered, and MSU still had a shot at the SEC West. But coinciding with an injury to RB Dontae Walker, the Dogs closed the season on a slide, losing in overtime to Arkansas and suffering an Egg Bowl blowout to Mississippi.

Record: 7-4, 5-3 Big 12
R.C. Slocum (12th season, 109-36-2)
Key players:
RB Ja'Mar Toombs (14 TDs), WR Robert Ferguson (885 yards), LB Jason Glenn (15 tackles for loss)
Season summary:
Good defense is almost always a certainty for A&M. The question coming into the season was on offense, but sophomore QB Mark Farris emerged as an answer. With a formidable target in the athletic Ferguson, Farris and the offense helped lead the Aggies to a four-game win streak at midseason, before they struggled in late-season losses to top 10 opponents Oklahoma and Texas. By then, the defense was severely banged up, but Glenn and others are expected back.
