Texas Tech retracts Turner 'suspension' report

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Texas Tech has clarified the reason freshman linebacker Marquis Turner will not play in the galleryfurniture.com bowl and the 2001 season.
Texas Tech spokesman Chris Cook said Friday that Turner "has taken time off from football for personal reasons."
Cook had said Thursday that Turner was suspended "while the freshman sorts out personal problems."
However, on Friday Cook clarified the statement. He did not elaborate.
The 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker from Bryan had five tackles for the Red Raiders this season, primarily seeing time as a special teams player. Turner was a regular on the punting and kicking teams.
