Wisconsin's Michael Bennett rushed for 83 yards and the go-ahead score in the Badgers' win. AP

The last laugh

Fletcher's late interception seals win for Badgers

Jamar Fletcher spent much of the Sun Bowl watching UCLA's Freddie Mitchell slice up his team's secondary. Despite all the damage the Bruins' flashy receiver did to Wisconsin early, UCLA didn't have enough to finish the Badgers off. Wisconsin rallied from a 13-point deficit to pull out a 21-20 win which was finally locked up by Fletcher's interception of Scott McEwan.

Record: 8-4, 4-4 Big Ten
Barry Alvarez (11th season, 78-48-4)
Key players:
RB Michael Bennett (1,598 yards, 10 TDs), WR Chris Chambers (16.5 yards per catch), CB Jamar Fletcher (6 INTs)
Season summary:
The season got off to a rough start when the Badgers had to suspend 26 players for improper discounts at a shoe store. It foretold a rough season where the preseason Big Ten favorite was constantly shuffling players, and nearly every game was tough. But the Badgers go into El Paso on a four-game win streak, and Bennett has played admirably as Ron Dayne's replacement. Incumbent QB Brooks Bollinger finds himself splitting time with Jim Sorgi.

Record: 6-5, 3-5 Pac-10
Bob Toledo (fifth season, 35-22)
Key players:
WR Freddie Mitchell (1,314 yards, 19.3 per game), RB DeShaun Foster (930 yards, 11 TDs), CB Ricky Manning (14 passes defended)
Season summary:
Injuries to several key players, including Foster and DE Kenyon Coleman, eroded the Bruins' momentum following upsets of Alabama and Michigan. UCLA struggled in league play, even losing to 5-7 rival USC. It hopes the December break will allow the team to get healthy for the bowl and return to early season form, when QB Cory Paus was at his best, Foster was bowling over defenders and the defense was a force. UCLA's most consistent and dangerous weapon is Mitchell.
