OU sacks Arkansas in Cotton Bowl

Oklahoma's defense came up big yet again in a bowl game as the Sooners recorded a school record nine sacks and allowed just 50 yards of total offense in a 10-3 over the Razorbacks. Oklahoma star safety Roy Williams had two sacks while linebacker Rocky Calmus had 11 tackles plus the game-clinching fumble recovery.

Record: 10-2, 6-2 Big 12 (2nd in Big 12 South)
Coach: Bob Stoops (third season)
Key players: TE Trent Smith (61 catches, 564 yards), LB Rocky Calmus (117 tackles, 15 for loss), S Roy Williams (99 tackles, 5 INTs)
Season summary: The Sooners were nearly in position to defend their national title before a shocking season-ending loss to Oklahoma State, their first home loss under Stoops. OU's defense was as dominant as the previous season, but its offense struggled in the biggest games, a 14-3 win over Texas, a 20-10 loss to Nebraska and the 16-13 OSU defeat. Nate Hybl (14TDs, 13 INTs) began the year the starting quarterback, was supplanted by Jason White, then reclaimed the job when White went down.

Record: 7-4, 4-4 SEC (T3 in West)
Coach: Houston Nutt (fourth season)
Key players: QB Matt Jones (592 rushing yards, 8.0 per carry), LB Jermaine Petty (139 tackles, 15 for loss), S Ken Hamlin (118 tackles, 6 takeaways)
Season summary: That the Razorbacks would ultimately contend for the SEC West title seemed highly unlikely to anyone who watched Arkansas' first two games against UNLV and Tennessee, when the Hogs managed just 206 total yards. But Arkansas eventually found an offensive spark plug, athletic freshman QB Jones, and after starting 1-3, rolled off six wins in a row. The crowning moment came Nov. 3, a seven-overtime, 58-56 victory over Ole Miss.
