Record: 6-5, 3-5 Big 12 (4th in the North)
Coach: Bill Snyder (13th season)
Key players: RB Josh Scobey (1,263 yards, 15 TDs), WR/KR Aaron Lockett (1,102 all-purpose yards), LB Ben Leber (5.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss)
Season summary: It was not the type of season K-State fans have come to expect under Snyder, whose past four teams won 11 games. But they did rebound from a 2-4 start to earn their ninth bowl berth in a row. The Wildcats won their first two over USC and New Mexico State and came within one point of No. 3 Oklahoma, falling 38-37. But that was the first of four straight defeats for K-State, who began a quarterback platoon with Ell Roberson and Marc Dunn in time to win four of their last five, losing only to No. 2 Nebraska, 31-21.

Record: 9-3, 6-1 Big East (2nd in league)
Coach: Paul Pasqualoni (11th season)
Key players: QB R.J. Anderson (1,368 total yards, 10 TDs), RB James Mungro (1,170 yards, 14 TDs), DE Dwight Freeney (17.5 sacks)
Season summary: Few figured the Orangemen would accumulate nine victories after opening 0-2 and looking anemic on offense against Georgia Tech and Tennessee. The offense was never exactly gangbusters, but Anderson's ascension to starter did help key an eight-game win streak that included victories over Auburn and Virginia Tech. A crushing 59-0 defeat at Miami ended the Orangemen's BCS hopes, but they do feel they should be playing in the Gator Bowl instead of the Hokies, whom they beat head-to-head and in the league standings, by two games.
