Key players: QB Ken Dorsey (23 TDs, 9 INTs), RB Clinton Portis (1,200 yards, 10 TDs), T Bryant McKinnie (no sacks allowed), S Edward Reed (9 INTs)
Season summary: The 'Canes haven't lost since the second contest of 2000 -- 21 games ago -- and Coker stands one victory from becoming just the second coach to win a national title in his first season. Miami was only truly challenged twice, 18-7 at Boston College and 26-24 at Virginia Tech. Otherwise, the 'Canes set school records for points (475) and average victory margin (43.2-9.4). Their most impressive stretch coming on consecutive weekends in November when they routed two ranked teams, Syracuse and Washington, by a combined 124-7 score.

Record: 11-1, 7-1 Big 12 (2nd in the North)
Coach: Frank Solich (fourth season)
Key players: QB Eric Crouch (1,115 rushing yards, 18 TDs), RB Dahrran Diedrick (1,299 yards, 15 TDs), DE Chris Kelsay (5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss), CB Keyuo Craver (3 INTs, 13 pass breakups)
Season summary: The Huskers won 11 consecutive games, but their best two weeks were spent sitting on the couch, watching as Oklahoma, Texas, Florida and Tennessee all lost, allowing NU back into the Rose Bowl despite a 63-26 season-ending humiliation at Colorado. Before the Buffaloes debacle, Nebraska had beaten 11 consecutive foes by double-digits, including a landmark 20-10 win over Oklahoma in which Heisman winner Crouch caught a key touchdown pass on a trick play.
