SAN ANTONIO(AP) -- Nate Kaeding kicked a 47-yard field goal with 44 seconds left to give Iowa a 19-16 victory over Texas Tech in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday

Texas Tech had tied the game on Robert Treece's 37-yard field goal with 2:05 left to play.

Iowa (7-5) then drove from its own 17 on six plays to set up Kaeding's winning kick, his fourth field goal of the game after making only eight during the regular season. The winner also tied his season long. His others were from 36, 31 and 46.

Texas Tech (7-5) started one last drive at its own 10 with no timeouts and made it to midfield before Kliff Kingsbury's desperation throw to the end zone was intercepted by Iowa's Bob Sanders.

Tailback Aaron Greving, subbing for injured starter Ladell Betts, ran for 115 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries in Iowa's first bowl appearance since 1997.

Betts, who rushed for over 1,000 yards during the season, had been bothered by a hamstring injury and left the game in the first quarter.

Kingsbury led Texas Tech with 309 yards on 29-of-49 passing and a 20-yard touchdown pass to Wes Welker, but also threw three interceptions.

Kingsbury led the Big 12 in passing this year but Iowa kept Tech's offense off balance for much the game by keeping it off the field.

The Hawkeyes opened with a methodical 16-play, 70-yard drive to Kaeding's first field goal for a 3-0 lead. No play covered more than 14 yards and the drive chewed up the first 9:15 of the game.

Greving put Iowa up 10-0 on his 1-yard TD run in the second quarter. Greving, whose previous high this season was 77 yards, had 82 by halftime on 13 carries.

But it was Iowa's own clock mismanagement that set up Tech's only points of the first half.

After quarterback Kyle McCann was sacked on the Tech 21, Iowa called a timeout with 36 seconds left to set up a field goal instead of letting the clock run down. Kaeding missed the 38-yarder, giving Tech the ball on the 20 with 30 seconds left.

Kingsbury then hit Nehemiah Glover on a crossing route for 35 yards to set up Clinton Greenhouse's line-drive 50-yard field goal as time expired in the half.

Tech tied it at 10 in the third when Welker slipped behind the Iowa defense for an easy TD catch. But it was the only time Tech's vaunted passing game would get into the end zone. The Red Raiders averaged 35.1 points during the season.

McCann completed his first 12 passes and finished 19-of-26 for 161 yards for Iowa.

The loss kept Tech from just its fourth eight-win season since 1976.
