Pat Sullivan (1971)
Legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant once said of Pat Sullivan, "he does more things to beat you than any quarterback I've ever seen." Sullivan changed the face of Auburn football and broke many SEC and NCAA records along the way. In 1971 he became the Tigers' first Heisman trophy winner "The year that I won it they made the announcement on Thanksgiving night at halftime of the Georgia-Georgia Tech game and so we were all sitting around the TV and I actually heard about it on national TV just like the millions of people that were watching," remembers Sullivan. Sullivan lead Auburn to bowl games in each of his three years as a starter and was named All-America twice. He's still involved in college football as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and his name lives on among the greats of the game. Sullivan is well aware of his place in history. "When you're actually in the room and you're with the Doak Walker's and the Roger Staubach's and the Earl Campbell's ... There's no question that it humbles you."
