Kentucky's Coleman could be eligible Posted: Saturday June 06, 1998 04:30 PM
LEXINGTON, Kentucky (AP) -- Kentucky wide receiver Kevin Coleman has returned to school and could become academically eligible to play this season. Coleman, who caught 52 passes last season as a junior, wasn't allowed to enter school for the spring semester, making it appear unlikely he would earn the necessary credits under NCAA guidelines to be eligible this fall. "We are looking at a very good possibility of him being eligible in the fall," Sandy Bell, the school's assistant athletics director for compliance, said Friday. "But we will not determine that for anybody until summer school is over. Things can happen this summer that can impact that decision." If Coleman is eligible, coach Hal Mumme would have eight of his top nine receivers returning this season. Craig Yeast led the team with 73 catches, followed by Anthony White with 59 and then Coleman. The Wildcats also hope to welcome back Quentin McCord, who caught 12 passes as a true freshman in 1996 before being academically ineligible last season. McCord participated in spring drills and could be eligible in the fall depending on his academic performance this summer.
