Star Ohio State recruit arrested again Posted: Saturday June 06, 1998 05:10 PM
ROCK HILL, South Carolina (AP) -- A quarterback who signed a football scholarship to play at Ohio State has been arrested again -- two weeks after being charged with four misdemeanor offenses. Northwestern High School's Derek Ross was arrested and jailed Thursday just after midnight for driving under suspension, third offense. He was released on $1,200 bond at 4:10 p.m. and was unable to participate in his 5 p.m. graduation ceremony. Over Memorial Day weekend, Ross was arrested and charged with failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, driving under suspension, second offense, leaving the scene of an accident and damage to property. Ross, the Trojans' star quarterback, was one of South Carolina's top recruiting prospects. It's unclear if the charges will affect Ross' scholarship to Ohio State or whether the new charge will make matters worse for Ross in court. He could not be reached for comment.
