Questionable for Tennessee game Florida's Kalich to miss 4-6 weeks with broken footPosted: Friday August 21, 1998 10:33 AM
GAINESVILLE, Florida (CNN/SI) -- Florida, which enters the upcoming season ranked fourth in the nation, has lost star offensive guard Ryan Kalich for up to six weeks with a fractured bone in his left foot. Kalich, whose 23 starts on the offensive line are more than any other Gator, suffered the injury during today's practice. The 6-foot-3, 303-pound junior has started 23 of Florida's past 25 games, including the 1997 Sugar Bowl and 1998 Citrus Bowl. The expected timetable for Kalich's recovery makes him questionable at best for Florida's game against defending Southeastern Conference champion and 10th-ranked Tennessee on September 19th. Kalich, though, is one of four returning starters on the offensive line. Florida averaged 145 yards rushing per game and yielded only 20 sacks in 12 games, including the Citrus Bowl. Also back from last season's 10-2 squad is tackle Zach Piller, center Corey Yarbrough and guard Cheston Blackshear.
