Allen decides to stay at Kansas Posted: Wednesday December 02, 1998 01:55 PM
LAWRENCE, Kansas (AP) -- Kansas football coach Terry Allen withdrew Wednesday from consideration for the Iowa coaching job. "After meeting with [Kansas athletics director] Dr. Frederick yesterday, our team and my wife last night, we decided that staying at KU was the best and most important thing for us to do," Allen said in a statement. Frederick said he was pleased with Allen's decision to stay at KU. "I apologize to the people of the University of Kansas for being involved in this situation, but because of family ties I thought that it was important to me to look into this particular job," Allen said. Iowa officials met Tuesday with Kirk Ferentz, assistant head coach for the NFL Baltimore Ravens, in their search for a replacement for football coach Hayden Fry. That four-hour meeting came after leading candidate Bob Stoops accepted the coaching job at Oklahoma.
