LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas quarterback Zac Wegner broke his right thumb during a spring conditioning drill and will be in a cast for four to six weeks, the school said Wednesday.

Wegner, a senior, broke his thumb on Tuesday during a "box jump drill," in which players jump onto and off of a box to build stamina and jumping ability. Wegner hit his hand on the box while making his upward jump.

Wegner was cleared by doctors for spring drills in late Parch, after undergoing tests to determine any lingering effects from two concussions he suffered last season.

He is expected to be at full strength when Kansas opens fall workouts on Aug. 6.

Coach Terry Allen cancelled the team's last scheduled spring practice.
