Back in the fold Hambrick, Bush return to Gamecock football teamPosted: Sunday May 16, 1999 03:59 PM
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- It looks as though South Carolina running backs Troy Hambrick and Jacob Bush have hit the books hard enough so they can hit the field this fall. The pair were excused from the team in March after coach Lou Holtz learned they were in danger of being academically ineligible for the season. Hambrick and Bush still must meet with Holtz before they can be reinstated. But, said Harold White, the Gamecocks' assistant athletic director for academics: "It looks good for them. They're on track toward eligibility." Hambrick, 6-foot, 221 pounds, will be a senior next year. He led the Gamecocks in rushing for the past two seasons and was the starter at tailback coming into spring practice. Holtz, however, has said Hambrick will have to start at the bottom of the depth chart and work his way up. Bush, a 5-8, 248-pound fullback, sat out this past season because he was academically ineligible.
