Dusty Bonner's play, including 5 TD passes Saturday, is reminiscent of another Wildcat QB. AP

Each Sunday, CNNSI.com will hand out its college football awards for the games just played. This edition is based on the games of Thursday - Saturday Sept. 16-18.

Player of the Week

Dusty Bonner, QB, Kentucky. First off, Florida's Alex Brown and his five sacks win this award if not for a couple obvious cheap shots on Tee Martin. Instead, Bonner gets rewarded for his near-perfect day (34 for 40, 304 yards, 5 TDs) in outgunning Indiana's Antwaan Randle El 44-35. Wasn't there supposed to be a drop-off from Tim Couch?

Team of the Week

Auburn. The scandals, the supposed dearth of talent -- all went out the window Saturday when Tommy Tuberville's crew opened the SEC season with a 41-7 drubbing of LSU. QB Ben Leard, who entered the season as a backup, was 16-of-23 for 304 yards and three TDs.

Unsung Hero

David Macklin, CB, Penn State. Not that his cover skills were a secret, but with Macklin out there, Miami's speedy receivers went silent.

Play of the Week

Penn State WR Chafie Fields' 79-yard dash down the sideline on a Kevin Thompson TD pass to overtake Miami. Michigan State's Gari Scott deserves mention for a similar play to beat Notre Dame.

Best Coaching Call

Cincinnati coach Rick Minter. Faced with the daunting task of stopping the game's most prolific rusher, the Bearcats stuffed nine, sometimes 10 in the box and dared Wisconsin to throw. Ron Dayne got his 231 yards, but the rest of the Badgers offense did nothing.

Hit of the Week

Where do you start when speaking of Florida? Well, to be different, how about WR Darrell Jackson laying out three Vols defenders blocking for Reche Caldwell on a third-quarter TD swing pass.

Quote of the Week

"This win ranks right up there with all the Super Bowls, believe it or not."
-- Vanderbilt coach Woody Widenhofer, owner of four Super Bowl rings, after beating Ole Miss.
