Antwaan Randle El Antwaan Randle El (center) gets a pat on the back from his teammates after scoring one of his three rushing TDs. AP

Each Sunday, CNNSI.com will hand out its college football awards for the games just played. This edition is based on the games of Thursday, Sept. 30 - Saturday, Oct. 2.

Player of the Week

Antwaan Randle El, QB, Indiana. There were more candidates than any previous week, and Shaun Alexander, Sammy Morris, Ron Dayne and Joe Hamilton all deserve mention here. But Randle El literally beat Illinois by himself, accounting for 422 (265 passing, 157 rushing) of Indiana's 467 yards. He ran for three touchdowns and threw for the game-winner in overtime as the Hoosiers rallied from 28-7 down to win 34-31.

Team of the Week

Alabama. They said over and over that the mountain of off-field distractions weren't affecting them, but how could you believe them? But in the capitol of distraction, Florida's menacing Swamp, the Tide pulled off perhaps the year's most riveting upset and possibly quieted the Mike DuBose detractors for good.

Unsung Hero

Brandon Daniels, KR, Oklahoma. Broke the school record and approached the NCAA mark with 229 return yards in a losing effort against Notre Dame.

Play of the Week

Georgia Tech WR Dez White's 80-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter against Maryland in which he spun free from the cornerback immediately after the catch, then put a mystifying move on the safety just as he neared the goal line.

Best Coaching Call

Jim Herman, Michigan defensive coordinator. The Wolverines defense was the first this season to completely fluster Purdue QB Drew Brees, and its secondary did a first-rate coverage job on his receivers.

Hit of the Week

Michigan CB Todd Howard, who despite his 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame delivered a blow to Purdue WR Larry Shyne that ensured he stopped moving forward and instead fell backward out of bounds.

Quote of the Week

"What happened? Really."
-- Ohio State left tackle Tyson Walter after the Buckeyes' 42-17 pasting by Wisconsin.
