SAN ANTONIO (CNN/SI) -- The Big 12 is switching to the great outdoors for its conference championship games beginning next year, and its basketball tournaments will visit Dallas in the next century.

The Big 12 Board of Directors announced Wednesday it has reached an agreement in principle to hold the 2000 championship contest in Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium. Texas Stadium in suburban Dallas is the site for the '01 game.

Sources say the switch will generate about $750,000 extra in gate receipts, though the conference did not release any financial information.

The first three football championship games have been alternated among the Trans World Dome in St. Louis and the Alamodome in San Antonio, where the game will be played on Dec. 4.

The men's and women's basketball tournaments, scheduled for Kansas City in '00, will be played in '01, '02 and '05 under the new contract. Dallas will host the '03 and '04 tourneys.
