SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- A Syracuse man was sentenced to seven years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty in a fight that injured several Syracuse University football players.

Trequaill Stackhouse, 22, who pleaded guilty to assault in the first degree, admitted stabbing Myles Thomas of Boston in the abdomen with a knife last October outside a Syracuse bar.

Thomas, a student at Syracuse, initially was hospitalized in critical condition after the fight, but has recovered.

The stabbings occurred during a melee that involved as many as 50 people. Police said the fight started when a group of Syracuse football players bumped into alleged street gang members as they were leaving the bar.

Injured in the brawl were football players Duke Pettijohn, David Byrd and Giovanni DeLoatch.

Byrd, a 21-year-old defensive back, underwent several hours of surgery after being stabbed five times in the neck and back. Pettijohn, a defensive end, and DeLoatch, a reserve lineman, were treated for cuts.
