Freshman CB suspended after incident
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- A University of Michigan football player was indefinitely suspended Friday after being charged with domestic violence. Markus Curry, 20, a freshman cornerback from Detroit, was arrested Thursday night following an incident involving his girlfriend, radio station WAAM reported. Curry was arraigned Friday on charges of tampering with a telephone and misdemeanor domestic violence, WAAM said. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Oct. 17. Assistant Washtenaw County Prosecutor Steve Hiller declined Friday to comment on the case. Curry's suspension was announced Friday by coach Lloyd Carr, whose No. 12 Wolverines play host to 17th-ranked Purdue on Saturday. "This is a serious issue, and it is very important that there be no rush to judgment," Carr said in a prepared statement. "An investigation will be made, the facts will be revealed and a judgment will be made based on those facts." Curry appeared in all five of the Wolverines' games this season, recording 13 solo tackles. Misdemeanor domestic violence is punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
