NORMAN, Okla. (CNNSI.com) -- No. 3 Oklahoma has likely lost quarterback Jason White for the season after an examination revealed an ACL tear, a source told the Daily Oklahoman.

White would perform strengthening exercises for two weeks to prepare for possible surgery, the source told the Daily Oklahoman. Then, while wearing a brace on the knee, his mobility and stability will be evaluated.

But Sooners coach Bob Stoops, whose policy is not to reveal injuries, reiterated Monday on the weekly Big 12 coaches conference call that White's knee is sprained and that there is a "decent" chance he could play Nov. 10 against Texas A&M.

White, a sophomore making just his second start, left the Sooners' 20-10 loss to Nebraska after coming down awkwardly early in the second quarter.

He returned for two plays in the third quarter after backup Nate Hybl was slammed hard to the turf.

Hybl, who was Oklahoma's starter the first six games of the season, returned to finish the game.

Stoops said Hunter Wall, a redshirt freshman and the third-string quarterback, will get more snaps in practice this week.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
