HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Marshall coach Bob Pruett isn't willing to discuss any interest in the Florida head coaching job vacated by Steve Spurrier.

Pruett, whose contract runs through the 2009 season, said Friday he's happy at Marshall.

Spurrier resigned Friday after 12 seasons to pursue an NFL coaching job.

"A couple of years ago, he told me he might do that. I don't know that that's what he's doing," said Pruett, who was Spurrier's defensive coordinator in 1994 and 1995 before taking the job at Marshall.

"I haven't even talked with him," Pruett said. "I just heard he resigned. And that surprises me a little bit. I wish him well."

In 1999, Pruett decided to stay at his alma mater rather than become the new coach at Houston.

His current contract runs through the 2009 season with an annual base salary of $140,000, plus extra money from television and radio, speaking engagements and incentives based on game attendance and promotions.

Spurrier earned $2.1 million per season at Florida.

Among the names that have surfaced as Spurrier's possible successor are Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, a former assistant under Spurrier; and Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.
