LSU-Va. Tech moved to Sept. 1

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU's football season opener at Virginia Tech has been moved to Sunday, Sept. 1, to accommodate a national telecast by ABC.

The game, which originally had been set for Aug. 31, will kick off at 1:30 p.m. CDT.

"To play a team the caliber of Virginia Tech on national television is a great opportunity for LSU," said LSU athletic director Skip Bertman.

The Tigers' home opener on Sept. 7 will be against The Citadel. That school replaced Bowling Green, which backed out of its scheduled game earlier this month.

It will be the first time LSU has played either Virginia Tech or The Citadel in football.
