Colorado beats out Nebraska in Big 12 preseason poll

DALLAS (AP) -- The 2002 Big 12 preseason football poll and preseason all-conference team, as selected by the news media, have been released by the league's office. Colorado is picked to win the North Division, followed by Nebraska, Kansas State, Iowa State, Missouri and Kansas.

Teams received six points for first, five for second, etc.
 

The pollsters favor Oklahoma in the South Division, followed by Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Baylor.

Texas Tech quarterback Kliff Kingsbury was selected as the preseason offensive player of the year, while Oklahoma defensive lineman Tommie Harris was chosen as defensive player of the year. Oklahoma led all teams in all-conference selections with five: tight end Trent Smith, Harris, linebacker Teddy Lehman, and defensive backs Derrick Strait and Andre Woolfolk.

Four Texas players were selected to the preseason team: offensive lineman Derrick Dockery, wide receiver Roy Williams, running back Cedric Benson and defensive lineman/outside linebacker Cory Redding.

Oklahoma linebacker Lance Mitchell was picked to be the league's Newcomer of the Year.
